General Care Discussion :: Laying eggs and shedding scutes

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Ok, I was surprised I couldn't find info on this, so now I'm concerned. I have a female RES about 4(ish) years old. She recently laid eggs for the first time, which wasn't overly surprising because she'd been acting weird for a while. Anyways, not a big deal, I cleaned up the broken shells etc, but while cleaning I picked up a bunch of scutes as well. Now, I got her when she was about 2" or less even from a roommate who didn't want her and wasn't taking care of her properly, and the only time before that she had ever shed was shortly after I got her, and I chalked it up to her bad previous environment. She hasn't shed even a bit since then, she's in fantastic general health, but I'm worried now!
Is there any connection between the egg laying and shedding?! She hasn't shed any since the day she laid the eggs, and seems to be totally back to her old self. Sorry for the long story, I thought some background might help

There is no connection to my knowledge. Males shed scutes as well. Ideally we should see them shed annually but that usually doesn't happen with captive RES.
