General Care Discussion :: administering antibiotic

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I took my turtle to the vet and a liquid antibiotic was prescribed. I use the syringe and have no problems administering the antibiotics into the turtle's mouth. My question is this: Should I put the turtle back into the aquarium (where she usually dives into the water) or wait for a while first? I am just wondering whether the antibiotic in her mouth can be 'washed' out into the water which means that she isn't getting much of it or do turtles swallow quickly so the antiobiotic goes into her stomach once it is squirted into her mouth with the syringe? I want to make sure that she is receiving the whole dose so she gets better. :D
Also, what's the best for Vitamin A? Store bought? Brand? Or ...

Thanks very much!

ps. I have had theturtle (red eared) for about 20 years now. She developed an abcess in her mouth.

I would wait a little bit. A few minutes should be fine. How about some carrots for Vit A? Or Cod liver oil for A and D?

the turtle is VERY picky about food ... she loves smelts, commercially prepared slider pellets and grapes. However greens are not much to her taste and I will try carrots:-) Any way to tempt her to eat some greens ... lol
I have tried dandelion leaves for example which are supposed to be very good for them which she just ignores.

Dandelion can taste bitter, so I would keep trying. Also try something called a veggie clip to hold it for your turtle.
