General Care Discussion :: Bean keeps flipping himself over!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

So, we had to downgrade Greenbean from his 110 gallon penthouse suite to a 10 gallon single-room efficiency (aquarium). We had to do this because we're moving states and his big tank is in storage. We're staying in a hotel for a month and so we got Bean a 10ga aquarium temporarily. It's only for a month. It has about 4 inches of water in it. No lid and no filter (we change the water).

So, since being evicted, Bean is a VERY unhappy turtle! He keeps climbing the side of the tank trying to climb out and will flip himself over! How do we stop this madness?!

I'd get a plastic storage container instead of a glass aquarium. You'd need either more water or keep it dry. Low water levels is a drowning hazard.

10/4.

The hotel room is really small so a container is likely out. But we can run the aquarium dry.

How often and for how long should wr put him back in water?

I'd rather not put him in a dry aquarium, the skin and shell rubbing and banging against the glass is not particularly good. If you're going to keep dry, I'd try a cardboard box. Sorry if it sounds conflicting from the previous post. Does the hotel have a bathtub?

If you're keeping the turtle dry docked, you can rehydrate as long as often as you'd like. As a minimum, I'd do it twice a day for 20 minutes.
