Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi guys,

I buy my "replacement water" from the grocery store. At our grocery store they have four types of water, by name they are:

Distilled

Purified

Drinking

Spring

Which of these four types should I be buying for my YBS?

Distiller and purified likely have fewer dissolved "stuff" in the water. You actually want to avoid that. Turtles are going to get some trace minerals by drinking the water, and pure water is much more subject to swings in ph.

If you have to buy water, I'd go with spring or drinking water.

Is there some reason you can't use your tap?

Have you seen the thread on building an inline water filter in a water change system?

wow, thanks for the info!

I usually use the Spring Water. The others I haven't used, but thought maybe I should, now I know not to, thanks!

Once in a while I like to give her creek water from the lake where she was born (the first little hatchlings are just now coming out). She's two years their elder.

My last choice has always been tap water with Tetra Aqua Safe for reptiles. I don't know why, I just don't seem to trust tap water very much, maybe I should?

Tap water sources that are potable are fine. You can skip the dechlorinator and follow ljapa's link and go with carbon.
