General Care Discussion :: Not Basking

I see this is sometimes a problem with people's turtles but I'd like to ask it myself as well
The turtles I used to have never had problems basking & took to it within a week or so or having them but this one boy I've had from the shelter for (gulp) 5 months now, went up twice in the early days. Never again. I have an ATBA which I made & is exactly the same as I've used in the past.
Now, this guy did use it when I put cloth on the ramp but quit when I took it off. I removed it because his claws were causing threads to go into the water. Even if it was no danger to him, it would be to my canisters.
I plan to put him out everyday with sun, shade & a pool in the nicer months but it's still too cold right now.
His shell is still hard but 5 months & no basking has got me worried.

Maybe you need to revisit the ramp. There are tons off options that might give him more traction (like the cloth did) ...those sticky tub strips, cork, ummm....other stuff
Also, he could be basking when you are not around. Toss a couple turtle sticks up there and see If they mysteriously get wet.

You should be able to do it with an iPhone and most types of Android phones. Sorry, don't know about the others but if you can't do it then feel free to email it me and I will post if for you.
