I came home from work today and my soft shell has green stuff on his neck and a sore on his head. I have no idea what the problem is.

Ok the green stuff is gone now. I saw him rubbing his head earlier so maybe he rubbed it off. But any ideas about the spot on his head?

Tell us a little more about your tank and filtration. It looks like a sore, ideally you want to keep the water extremely clean to avoid infection.

I'd check him out throughly. Any other changes?

That is all I have noticed. He has always spent most of his time basking but he does swim quite a bit and burrow in the sand and play. I also have a yellow bellied slider but I noticed him chasing the soft shell so I separated them. It's a 55 gallon setup with a canister filter. I do weekly partial water changes. I have a water heater so the water is kept at 76 degrees and the basking area is about 95 degrees.

I'm not sure how long they can be kept out of water. If it were a RES, I'd call for some dry docking and Betadine to clean the area. Air drying helps wounds heal faster.
