General Care Discussion :: A lot of bubbles

Okay i am just looking for clarification on the blowing bubbles under water, what is a "acceptable" amount, and what is too much?

recently My biggest RES blows bubbles also constantly, when ever she moves she lets out a couple bubbles.

I am a little paranoid right now because i feel like she isn't acting 100% normal, BUT that's another story.

Nothing when she is basking, just when she is swimming or sitting/sleeping on the bottom.

Id say its normal. As long as everything else seems fine i wouldnt worry.

Penelope lets out large bubbles regularly... I see it several times a week for the past year. Usually when she is going for a dive or sinking to the bottom. Used to thing it was due to cruddy lungs after a couple bad RIs... now I think she just wants to lose the bouancy of full lungs. Little nose bubbles on a regular basis would be a different story.

Yeah, i can not tell if they are mouth or nose, i have a stock tank and the water is almost 3 feet deep: It is pretty random but common i watched her for about 5 min the other day and i would say it's like 1-3 bubbles every 30-45 seconds, but sometimes 1 or sometimes a bunch. She was just laying on the bottom the whole time.

This is going to go off topic a bit, but what are the symptoms of a female being egg bound?

Restless, digging w/hind feet, loss of appetite.

she was gravid about 2 months ago and did not lay any eggs, since then she has been acting "off" a lot of sleeping on the bottom of the tank, will not bask unless i put her up there, then she stays up there for hours, swimming funny not lopsided but awkward. Any thoughts or am i just being paranoid.

Have you tried feeling for any retained eggs?

Yeah, i have NEVER had any luck with the feeling for eggs even with my females that laid this spring i didn't feel anything and they both had over 5. Do you have a surefire way to do it?

You could actually be feeling eggs and you don't know it. I drew this long ago, this is how egg usually touch your finger. The eggs will just press against your finger. It just feels like maybe a soft lumps in the turtle. Feel both res, get to know what both feel like. If one has eggs and other doesn't. You will notice the different feel. Once you know the feel of egg pressing against you finger. You never mistake it.

just gave it a try and as usual there isn't a whole lot of room to poke maybe an inch and you are against something hard and smooth? Both sides same feel, are these the eggs, from the photo you posted i would assume that they are, but it has ALWAYS felt like that.

It wont be hard, eggs move if you push at them. Fi you feel anything hard you poking at its pelvis bone. IF both sides felt the same then you don't have eggs. The eggs rest different on either side. You would of noticed. Its hard to explain sorry. Even the first time I felt egg I wasn't 100% if it was eggs

No it's all good, i appreciate the help, she is going to go in for a check-up and xrays, soon. Going to be the best way to figure it out.
