General Care Discussion :: Cloudy Water

I cleaned my tank yesterday and it was all clear and perfect, and this afternoon, it became all cloudy. And it is still is cloudy. I always use conditioner in the water after I clean it and let the filter run for some time, before I put my turtles into. It has never done this before. Does anyone know what could be causing it?

It's probably cycling. What kind of filter/media do you have? How big is the tank and how much water is in it?

I have a Top Fin Power Filter 40. I have about roughly 30 gallons in my tank and my tank is designed to hold 40 gallons.

Were the cartridges replaced? You don't need to use a water conditioner if your filter has carbon media.

Why do you not need conditioner if you have carbon media?

I have always put conditioner and I have carbon media as well. It's never done this before, so I wasn't sure what was wrong!

The main purpose of water conditioner is to remove chlorine/chloramines. It does so by using a chemical that is known to be harmful and these elements remain in the water. Carbon absorbs chlorine/chloramines, which is more safer. (Thats the short version.)
