General Care Discussion :: When to add nesting area?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I suspect I may have lady turtles. They're about 3 years old with SCLs 4.75" and 4.25", respectively. When should I start providing them with a nesting site? Neither has shown any signs of gravidity yet but I'll need some time to adapt their habitat, so I figured I should get started early.

Well it depends on what you have in mind for a nest (a major build or a box).
You may want to find out if they are female or not before investing in anything.
Anyway, they usually don't start laying eggs till they are five inches or so.
I suggest that you just become well versed in the signs of gravidity and wait until they start showing them (like escape attempts and going psycho). Otherwise it will just stress them out. You will have time to get them set up if you catch on to their behavior early.
