General Care Discussion :: My turtle laid an egg!

So I came home tonight to a turtle egg in my turtles' tank! I have three turtles. I believe that I have two females and a male, based on my own observations, as I received them from my grandmother when they were babies, who no longer wanted to take care of them. When I arrived in my room, one of them was (and still is) going insane in the tank. She won't stop swimming rapidly around the tank. The lone egg was in the mouth of the other female, who was tearing it apart. The small male was simply swimming around. I have no idea what to do about the female. Does she still have more eggs to lay? Should I separate her from the other two? The other female was even going to far as to snap at the cloaca of the "pregnant" female. What should I do? I'm really at a loss.

Yes, your turtle has more eggs, alot more depending on the size and age. You wanna take her outside if you can if it warm enough and let her room around see if she will start digging a nest, give her distance but keep an eye on her always. You shouldnt need to seperate her from the others.

How big is your tank?

Do we know what species of turtle? There are many that lay just one egg. Even with species which lay several, it's not uncommon for a first timer to lay just one. Of course, there could be more, just some food for thought.
