General Care Discussion :: Long distance move.

We are moving about 2500 miles. I'm wondering what is the best way to do this with our RES. She will have to be about 4 days without her tank. I want to make this move the least stressful as I can.
Also what do we do with the filter? We have a Fluval 406 I believe.

Are you staying in the US? Are you driving? Will you be stopping by any hotels or family/friends homes? 4 days out of water is fine, though if you can rehydrate a few times a day for feeding and drinking, you should be fine. As for the filter... clean it, dry out the sponge media, bag any bio media in w/some tank water and toss any carbon away.

When I moved my Turtle from Nevada to New York, I put him in a small container and would put him in a critter keeper fill 1/4 with water when we stopped for the night. I put 1 or 2 pellets in the critter keeper every night for him to eat. He was a 2 mo. old turtle at the time of the move and did perfectly fine. The move was in January too, when it was cold and snowing all the way from Colorado to New York. So for a turtle that is older and more established you shouldn't have a problem. But like Steve said you should try to provide water when you stop to sleep.

Staying in the US and will stop in hotels along the way. It will be her and 2 cats so need to keep everyone happy. My husband will be a day behind me with her tank. I will drive about 12-16 hours a day and only spend 2 nights (I hope) in hotels.
