General Care Discussion :: Needs reassurance - Dumbork fell :(

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Okay, the first time was when I was transferring her from the tank to her feeding container. She pushed her rear legs and flew out of my hand. She landed on her carapace. It was her morning feeding and I searched her shell, her limbs, and her over-all behavior for the rest of the day, and she was fine.

The second time was just now. She latched on and flew out of the feeding tank. When we found her she was on her plastron.

The drop was about three feet. There were no external injuries, no change in feeding patterns and no change in general behavior.

Do I need to watch for any other signs? Thanks.

Ouch! Sorry to hear, I think it has happened to all of us at one time or another. She sounds like she is okay, I'd keep an eye on her for a couple of days.

Hmmm.
How old is she?
Penelope did an escape act, falling about 4-5 feet. That was the first time she was gravid and laid eggs.
Flying out of your hands is scary, but they have strong little legs, eh?
Bailing from a tank without help may be a sign of being gravid. If she is old enough keep an eye on her and see if she goes cuckoo at about the same time each day / night.
Other than that; it probably scared you more than it scared her.

Oh poor Dumbork! Poor you!

I second what everyone in here has said - from all I know they're resilient little creatures and as long as there's not a crack in the shell and she's not acting strangely, she should be ok. Startled, probably, but ok.

Should be OK, but what type of floor do you have? She'll try and try again later... when I use a feeding tub, I place it on the floor (learned the hard way too).
