I just bought a new aquarium and while I was transferring everything. The thermometer brok. I have one of the thermometers with the black balls on the end (link below) We saw the black balls everywhere in the tank and didn't know what they were. We had to go so we kinda swooshed them toward the filter so Myrtle wouldn't get them. When I came back I looked at the theremomerter and the end was smashed. I dont know if Myrtle ate any or not. I took her out right away and put her in her temp. tank. We are currently draining the tank. Do you think that the black balls were harmful if she ate any? I looked it up and it says it contains no murcury. Thanks :(

I have no idea. Were the little balls hard or soft? Refresh my memory - how big is Myrtle?

she is about 3-31/2 inches. They were hard. We just finished taking the huge aqaurium back downstairs and hoseing it out getting everything out. Its rinsed and everythings good. I just hope she didn't eat any...

The little balls are probably some sort of metal used to weight the thermometer down. Hopefully it's a non-toxic type and Myrtle didn't eat any of them.
