Hi there,

I just saw the ODDEST thing in my tank. I thought my turtle knocked the black suction cup off the heater again and when I tool a closer look, there was this black "thing" coming out from beneath the tail. It looked like a large piece of seaweed you would see at a beach, or the way a snails foot looks coming out of the shell. Whn it saw me the turtle pulled it back in. I am going to stay away a bit and see if I can come back and get a photo.

The turtle is very active and nothing appears to be wrong...it was just very science fiction looking. Definately not a poop or digested food. It was like a flower budding! What could this possibly be???

How long have you had it? last August

What is the water temperature? 78
Are you using a water heater? when needed
How much water is in there? 7 gallons
Are you using a water conditioner? no

What is the basking temperature? unsure
Is there a basking light? yes
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? yes
What kind is it or what is it made out of? plastic dock for turtle
Is there a UVB light? yes

What have you been trying to feed it? reptemin, the odd guppy
When was the last time your turtle ate? today

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 10 gallon tank
Is the tank near a window? no
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? varies

Have you read the Basic Care section? yes
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? no

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms?

congrats, and good luck!
I have two baby RES; Emerald(Emmie or Rocky for short, plus she has green ears!) and Pretty. (Don't ask me about her name. My brother named her. He's only 6 1/2.)

Well I am glad to hear that this is a normal thing. No pun intended there. I just took my RES out of the bathtub and saw the exact same thing and quickly came onto here to find out if that indeed is what it was. I have had my turtle for 2 years and this is the first time I have seen that.

(I put him in the bath tub for extra swim time while cleaning or adding water to his tank)
