My turtle has an absess in his ear and the vet says it'll cost between $200 - 300, which caught me by surprise. I have investigated in doing it myself, but I'm having a hard time getting his head out. Does anyone know of inexpensive or discounted vet? Where can I find one? In LA area.

Please don't try to do this on your own. If you're not even sure how to 'get his head out' then you surely can't handle this delicate procedure. It could end up killing him because you don't know what you're doing.

Try to make payment arrangements with the vet. Most will accomodate your budget.

That fee does sound rather high. Try finding a vet here: www.tortoise.org/general/vetlist.html Scroll down to LA county. You might also contact the California Turtle and Tortoise Club www.tortoise.org and ask if anyone has a herp vet that they'd recommend. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
