One of my slider, Clyde is acting kind of weird. I got both of them from the street cuz I didnt like how they were selling those babies. They were like few inch big and now they both are doing well in the tank with basking area, heater, lights and the works. Clyde is a pig and eats everything while Rocky is small and sweet. But lately Clyde been on the basking area and not really doing anything but keep on jerking his legs. Whats wrong with him? hes never like that. We have lights, heater that register on 78 degree and even got shrimp brine, live fishes and pellets. I'm kind of worried now. His legs is jerking and his head is jerking and my boyfriend said its the hiccups. I do not think so.

After basking awhile, they will kick and jerk their head and legs as they dry out. I think they are just working the dead skin off....but they all do it, no big deal, perfectly normal.

Are you sure? because he never does this. and now its been happening for few days. He wont swim or eat. Just stay on the basking area and jerking. If he goes in the water he swims like crazy hitting the tank. Usually hes a bully and a pig. But now the smaller one, Rocky seems happier cuz Clyde is up there jerking around.

If he's refusing food, thats a different story. How long has it been since he's eaten?

You can see in the video what hes doing. Look at his leg carefully. Hes hiding so I cannot take a good video of it.
Just click the pics and it will take you over to see the video.

Impaction comes to mind. Is there any small gravel or something else in the tank he could have ingested?

Hi R & C, are you sure Clyde is a male? How old is Clyde? I know you said Clyde is the big one - how big is big? I'm thinking of a female having difficulty with eggs.....

Maybe the cause of jeking is that your turtle is suffering from calcium deficiency.

Clyde is a male. I figured out the gender and they both are males. I have no small gravel in the tank. Just all big rocks because I was reading on the internet how the turtles would eat them and then have hard time passing it out. Clyde is like 3 inches or less but hes FAT. Rocky is only like less 2 inches and thinner. His jerking is lot less now and hes starting to eat more but not the way he was before but today for no reason he bit Rocky. I guess he got issues

Skin gets dry from all that sunbathing. Sometimes the skin gets itchy. He is just scratching himself to get rid of the itch!

Mine just started to do this yesterday morning, i only knowtice it in the AM time, but he dosent do it any other time then that... The difference is, mine will do it with her mouth open underwater. Now i know gulping is bad, but how can i tell? And how can i make sure that this is just shedding of skin?
I knowticed it today after he came off of the dock, but he was only there from (as early as 6ish) to 7:45am...
