Rot, Hard water, or Shedding?

I just found these spots on my Bob. They weren't there about 2-3 days ago that anyone in the house can remember. We recently bought a larger heater (his broke and we are planning on upgrading the tank soon so I went larger) and a new incandecsent lamp, the UVA/UVB combo bulb didn't put out any heat. I have turned the heater down some because he like to dig under it and lay on it. I checked out the care pages over on Austin's site but I can't seem to make out which is which. The spots on the very top center of his shell peeled off in two neat little pieces w/ very bright and new shell underneith so I'm hoping he is just growing. Any help / advice would be appreciated.

PS. I know the tank, 20L, is getting small. I am in the market now for a larger setup for him.

Sorry, can't quite get the pics thing worked out.

Just to clarify after I reread my post. We have had the incandescent lamp for little over a month now. He does bask and seems to enjoy himself, never seems sick and always ready to eat something.

It sound like he's just growing to me, but I'm no pro :)

I think he is just sheading. If there is new healthy shell underneath then you are fine. Is the shell soft at all?

Looks like shedding and mineral deposits to me. Is it soft, fuzzy or smelly? That's when he'd need a vet.

No soft or smelly spots. Some of the spots are hard and rough and a couple just peeled off w/ what looked like new shell underneath. I just worry because I'm new to turtles.

The shell underneath looks OK? If so, then you shouldn't have to worry. :)

I haven't been around lately, so when I got a chance to stop by the forums today I figured I'd post an update. Bob's shell still has some white spots on it. I'll try to get some new pics up. The spots still don't smell and are not soft at all. They also won't scrub off but could still be minerals (I'm hesitant to use vinagar on him). Bob seems to be doing well. He'll put his head against the glass and swim like crazy when he sees me or my wife. He can actually throw water out of the tank doing that. He wants food all the time and scarfs down anything in sight (except for one small Rosy which is going on 6 months in the tank? He ate the others.). He needs a bigger tank and hopefully Santa is shopping for one.

Are the white spots spreading?
