Hello!! My turtle Chomper is 10 years old and i got him from a friend who didn't want him but he's amazing, now he's shedding at 10 years old. does that mean he's getting bigger??? i upgraded from a 27 gallon to a 55 gallon and he's doing great and is so happy, just wondering if the change means he's going to grow more then 7 inch shell??
help
pls
matt plus the CHOMPER!@!

Males will grow to be 7 - 9 inches. Judging by that second picture you might have a female who will grow to 12 inches. A 55 gallon tank is already too small.

It could be because you upgraded his living conditions and now he's doing alot better and is in a better environment. When I "saved" our turtle from a petstore that had him in a small tank, he started shedding like that. Its probably something he needed and I wouldn't really be worried about it.

Chompers (a she by the looks of the nails, like Spookster said) is growing. That's a good sign - it means her environment has finally been brought to a decent level. But, like Spookster said, you're gonna need a larger tank and a nesting area in addition to the basking area.

I think turtles keep shedding all their lives... Ralph is 12 and he shed this year...
