I was just at a herp vet, and she does have RI. :( Well at least i know what she has and i'm not wondering anymore. I have to give her a shot each 3 days, giveing her 8 shots in total. They said it might be weeks to months for her to get better. She was also given a vitamin A shot. The vet told me to feed her as much as she could eat in five minutes. Is this true? Also, what triggers RI in turtles? I'd like to know what i was doing wrong, so that i don't make the same mistake again.

Thanks!

Today actually she got worse, shes not even opening her eyes and swimming very very slowly, and resting.. And this is after the injections... I know she'll get better, i know she will. I just feel so bad for her...

Good luck CV Cream. My positive thoughts are with you and Baby. I know you're doing the best you can. She has the best possible chance with your good care.

I'm no experienced turtle keeper, so one of the veterans will have to answer your question, but I've noticed that RI is almost always attributed to: (1) temps too cold (2) water not clean (3) caught it from another turtle (4) pre-existing condition, or (5) GOK.

Keep us posted!

Thanks for caring SpotsMama :D . I think it would most likely be something that she had before i bought her, Because i change the water every 5 days, and i have a water heater. I just love her sooo much.

I'll keep you guys posted.

I just have another question, Should i chcange the water immediatly after it gets cloudy? By putting new water in there, i don't think the chlorine would go away right away even w/ the conditioner, and i don't want her eyed to get worse w/ chlorine...

If she is still eating, it's a good sign! The one that I lost had totally stopped eating for 3 days. The other two are still not totally back to themselves, but they are loads better. I also gave shots, which I know sucks, but it does help. She has the same symptoms that mine did, and they are going to be fine. i bet you're giving Baytril shots too. That's what helped my little ones! (If you are keeping the water @ 83 or so, don't be too freaked out if she sheds more than usual. The vet told me it was normal.) :)

Thanks. Yea she is still eating a lot, she's slower at noticeing the food, and can only eat in really shallow water, but she does eat. :) She also has her eyes open when she swims, sometimes when she basks, they close. Yea, im going to have to give her her shot on monday. (the first one im giving) It's gunna be hard, (her makeing her mad turtle faces and all) but it'll make her better. (She'll thank me later) :)

Update:

It's been 2 injections, and tommorow will be her 3rd. She seems to be doing alot better. =). She is eating well, swimming, and basking. Eyes wide open. :D . I going to put all my tap water in water gallons for 3 days, so the chlorine will evaporate. For the first few days of tap water, she was apparently sleeping all day. But i think it was just the waters chlorine. I think the water had to do alot with her inactivity. I was wondering, you guys say to feed the amount that will fit in her head, but my vet says to give her as much as she will consume in five minutes. She said to throw 10 or more pellets in there. And i know 10 pellets put together would be larger than her head. So who is right? ???????

She also has the browish color on the outlines of her belly. The vet pointed this out to be a sign of infection. This will go away when the infection is gone right? If more comes, what does that mean?
