Urgent Care :: Too much conditioner = sleeping turtle?

When i got home my res at the bottom of the tank with his eyes closed. When i came in he swam a lil wit his eyes closed and then went back to sleep. The other night he slept from 4 pm til the next morning. Does putting to much water conditioner in the water cause eye irritation? Because i put lil more than the bottle instucted, becasue he was still rubbing and closeing his eyes after i put the first dose in, and waited a day.

What is the water temp and basking area temp? How often do you change the water?

Im not sure of exact water temp, but i set the heater to 79, and i'd estimate the basking temp at about 85. I change the water every 4-5 days.

I jsut felt the basking rock and i'd have to say maybe 81-82 acctually.

Check your temperatures, get a thermometer, I set my thermometer and the water temp is definately higher than the heater says. Walmart sells little ones that stick on the tank for under $2. Basking temp is supposed to be about 10 degrees higher than the water temp....at least that's what I've thought.

Today he is still closing his eyes while swimming and sedomly opening them, then closeing them again. Right now he went back to sleep. And he just woke up at around 10:00 i know it can't be cuz' he's tired. I didn't get a thermometer, i can't right now. I don't think the water temp has to do w/ his eyes being irritated.

The water temp can have something to do with his inactivity. And having the temps too cool can contribute to a respiratory infection, two symptoms of which are closed eyes and lack of activity.
