Our turtle is getting algae on his back. I keep his tank very clean, he is well fed and Im not sure what to do? Is there anyone who can help me?

I take a soft toothbrush and gentle scrub the algae off of my turtles back while running some warm water over him. So far it works great.

If your turtle is basking sufficiently he shouldnt have any algae on his shell. It usually comes off with the scute when he sheds anyway..

Mine is basking quite a bit...but until 2 weeks ago when I got him, he didn't have a sufficient basking light, so we are working on it.

You wouldn't have that problem with cuttlebone and/or calcium spray/dust and/or the Dr. Turtle sulfa block.

Zeke gets Cuttlebone...and I've heard that the Turtle Sulfa Block is a waste of money. Zeke got a sulfa dip 2 weeks ago before I brought him home...and as of yet he is not slimy...just has a little algae...from what I've ready a little bit is normal...so I'm not too worried about it. He doesn't mind me brushing it off either.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.


It is supposed to "prevent common bacterial and fungal diseases" but as mentioned, should be avoided.
