My turtle, Merle, has recent got a growth on her neck that looks like a bubble. We have had people tell us that it is because of the water, but we have changed the water and tried different things to improve her water, but it is not helping, has anyone had this problem and does anyone have any suggestions on what this and what causes it? :(

Any help, guidance, or suggestions are greatly appreciated. :!:

It sounds like an ear abcess. You will need to get her to a herp vet ASAP. Abcesses are very painful for the turtle. A vet will lance it and give you medicine to help heal the infection.

Water quailty is extremely important for a turtles health and if kept in poor conditions in can cause health problems. I'm not saying this is what happened in this particular case, but just to keep her water as clean as possible while she's healing after her vet visit.

Also, an abscess does not go away by itself and is not always related to water-quality issues. It should be a fairly routine procedure for an experienced herp vet.

Thanks...

Thanks to everyone for your help! My husband and I rescued this turtle about a year and half ago, and we are still learning how to care for her! We appreciate all the advice and will get this taken care of ASAP! :D

The turtle is recovering nicely after a doctor visit. Thanks for asking!
