apparently some stuff arent really getting sucked into the filter

can someone tell me what the purpose of a filter is?
to suck in poop or clean water

First thing to know is if you have the right filter for the job otherwise it'll just push some water around. Also remember that a filter won't make the water magically clean, but it's part of a healthy environment.
