Hi my males res has not ate in a few days. When I checked on him I noticed he is stretching his neck and legs way out and is shedding on his skin. Our filter broke so for a few weeks I was draining, refilling, and treating his aquarium every 3 days. His new turtle specific filter was installed last Friday and a conditioning block put in and now he's shedding. Is this normal? I saw ur comment on dirty water is why I am asking here. His water temp is 81 and I am using a plant grow light till a new housing comes in on his basking area.

I've had him 6 weeks, age unknown, 6.5 inch shell, 55 gallon tank, 15 gallon of water at 80 degrees, turtle specific filter, pellets is all I've been able to get to eat thus far (have tried crickets and shrimp pellets), ummm trying to think...ask anything I haven't listed.

Is there any other behavior changes or symptoms? Where did you get him from?

Still won't eat? Is he lethargic? Did you make any changes suggested in the other thread?

I'm not sure about him not eating but some skin shedding can be normal. Excessive skin shedding can be from poor water quality or high water temps. 80 degrees is a little warm. I would not recomend most turtle labeled products, like filters, because they are poor quality. I would also recomend putting more than 15 gallons of water in the tank. RES like having a decent water depth. It is recommended to have the water depth at least 1.5 times the length of the shell.
