I was given a RES yesterday and his shell is deformed. I spent most of the night doing research on what could be wrong and i believe it is a severe vitamin a deficiency. But I would like some opinions. I currently do not have the money to take him to a vet. But am willing to do what I can to take care of his guy. I have uploaded a pic. Would love some advice. Thanks in advance..

yikes! thats pretty bad. Not sure if it is fixable, make sure you get the right environment set up for it (large tank), basking area, uvb light, calcium. I dont think it'll fix it but it wont make it worst.

I actually just saw this on another forum, but it was much more severe. i believe they said it was from way too much protein in the diet, as well as an environment that is way too small. Unfortunately, the deformation of the shell is irreversible, but you can do things to help your turtle still live a happy and healthy life. i'll post the links to the other threads if i can find them.

I agree with the posters above. This is permanent and his shell looks a bit dirty too, so you can give him a gentle cleaning.

All you can do is keep it from getting worse. Congrats on your new pet! I am sure he'll return the love tenfold! :)

Thanks Y'all!! I am getting ready to give him a bath. He is starting to fit in with Myrtle and Picasso very well. I think he is a little sweet on Myrtle :D :D Very glad I was able to get him and give him a chance at a better life.

I am so happy you got that Turtle out of that Home. So sad. From everything I have learned once the Pyramiding starts and forms- there is no way to get it down. But you can stop it from getting worse. Not giving them too much Protein. I just wanted to say Thank you for getting him or her. Very admirable of you. When I got my two turds, same situation. But not nearly that bad. From taking care of them the right way- I was able to stop it from getting worse..and for some reason Their shells look to be getting flatter.
