Urgent Care :: Help?? relocation

First I love my RES but she is quite big appr.6" and I just do not have the space for a bigger aquarium.I have her in a long 40 gal tank now. I watch her and she is so active. I just think she needs a better home. I have called local places to place her but they say because she still layes eggs???? the won't take her. I thought they always laid eggs. Anyway I was walking near my house and looked into the canal "lock" area and noticed several RESs in there. No one believed me so I took pictures and sure enough that is what they are. There are little ones appr. 3" and then bigger ones appr. 8-10". I was wonder if you think she'd survive there or are these types of turtles territorial? Even though I have fed her all this time could she find food? Does she know how to survive in outside habitat? I just want her happy. I live in Reading, Pa.

Just keep in mind you don't need to keep her in an aquarium... anything that can hold water has the potential to be a successful turtle habitat.

Thank you for getting back to me. I still don't know what I am going to do. She tries to knock her lid off to get out of aqurium which is scary enough with the light in it. I thought about an outside retreat for her which I am still beating around but just don't have alot of room. I also put feelers out for a larger aquarium. I really want to keep her but just feel like she wants more. I read the info you sent and it is what I though so releasing her is not an option for me. I will work it out. Thanks for your help.

Consider stock tanks or used aquariums. Stock tanks will last a lifetime, can easily be moved around and used indoors.
