Hello,

I live in an area where there are no reptile vets. I know quite a bit about reptiles overall but turtles and snakes are newer to me. I read books and websites before we ordered them. The tank is set up right but we have had two die and another one that isn't active and I am worried he/she may be dying too. Help. What should I do? The heat is around 80, there is a basking area and we have UV lighting. I have sand in the bottom and different rocks for them to get out of the water on. I have baby turtle pellets and I have been offering brine shrimp too. Only two are eating. There is no sign of infection but they are dying off..two dead and one no doing well.

Suggestions please.

Where did you buy them? Did they seem active when you got them? The problem could be with the source. They could have been sick or under fed before you got them. I would definitely contact the company you bought them from.

How long have you had them? How big is their tank? The water temp is a little on the warm side, but not too warm. Do you have a thermometer to measure the temp? Ideally, it should be around 78 degrees for hatchlings.

Agreed. Natural for some hatchling to not make it just from natural weakness but being sick it could of spread it to the others. If you still have have the one thats inactive with the two good ones seperate from him as sickness can spread. Keep the water temp high where it is at. Higher temps can help the turtles fight infection.
