My turtle, Sheldon, is a little under a year old. Recently he has started sleeping a lot during the day. Usually he goes into the back corner of his tank under water, but sometimes he sleeps on the basking area. He never goes all the way in his shell, just sometimes he tucks his tail in or his front legs. I've looked at him carefully and see no wounds or signs of sickness. He eats normally and behaves normal otherwise. Nothing in the tank has changed. My other res in the tank with him is fine. I've read in some places that turtles sleep more in winter because it's like a "hibernating" mode. But then I've also read that that isn't true. I'm not a very experienced turtle owner and need some help :(

What temp is your basking area and water? Do you have a UVB light, a water heater and a heat bulb? My house is cooler in the winter than the summer. My water heater is set for 76. In the winter the water is usually between 74 - 76. In the summer my water temp is around 78. My basking area in the summer is 90 - 95 in the winter it's 86 - 88. I think a slight change in temps may cause them to bask more. Mine basks slightly more in the winter. I haven't seen him sleeping more though. I guess your turtle may be suffering from a seasonal disorder. Keep an eye on him though. If he is sick he'll hide his illness.

I'd also keep any eye out for any bullying from the other turtle.

All the temperatures and lighting seem to be good. Although the female is getting especially aggressive. She hasn't done any damage and I haven't seen her actually bite the male, but she snaps at him like she is threatening to. I am currently looking to find her a new home :(.

Maybe your male turtle should just buy your female turtle some flowers and take her out to dinner once in a while and she'll be less grumpy . :P
