Hello,
I'm posted some pictures, just looking for some advice on whether these spots could be fungus or shell rot? Or something different all together?
Crush is a 4-5 year old female RES. She's a good..7 inches I'd say. She has a 90 gallon aquarium with a aqua clean filter for 90 gallons. Also, a turtle dock for basking with her UVB light atop of that. She has quite the appetite, and begs frequently for food, she likes turtle pellets, occasional blood worms but doesn't have much of an interest for vegetables. Her behavior remains the same..although today I've noticed these spots, and have lightly cleaned her shell with a soft toothbrush, and kept her drydocked beside me..which in the past she's been fine with, but today she's definitely a bit moodier and has tried to bite. They seem more like..a bit of pitting rather than a growth, but I'd like to hear anyones opinion. Some advice is definitely appreciated!!

Hi, welcome to the site. Did she recently shed? If those are pits, then you might be looking a thin bone layer. Does it feel/look dull or rough?

Hey...thanks =)
She hasn't shed for probably a month or so, and doesn't appear to starting to shed anywhere either. And they're definitely rough feeling, not so much as fuzzy or cottony..the best example I could provide would be...if something was painted multiple times, and part has chipped, you know how you could see some edges in the chip? That's what it looks like. I've looked up a few sites, and it hasn't appeared to match any description I've found. There's nothing she could injure herself on in her tank, and her shell isn't soft in any areas.

@Moose - I remember, but wasn't it more like a flaking scute? How's Shamus now?

@Wirenth - It does look like thin bone layers exposed. It might come off and expose a little flesh which will darken and harden. I really haven't seen that many seemingly random spots on a shell.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the response. I'm going to try to find a vet in my area, but was looking for suggestions in the mean time. ( I live in a small town..I don't think the vet's here are much use..lol)
Should I be using anything to clean the areas for the meantime? They don't appear to be getting worse, or growing by any means..and she continues to act like her normal self.

It looks like steve said just exposed bone. Looks exactly like a wild turtle's shell where they will have random spots like that all over.

Wirenth, the tough part is determining the cause and visual observation might not yield much info. You can do a gentle scrub with diluted betadine, let it dry for an hour or so and put back into the tank. You can also use diluted chlorhexidine (brand name is Hibiclens) and scrub and let dry, then rinse and returned to the tank.
