Hey everyone, new to the forum and basically to the club.
But I've been taking care of turtles for about a year now. In total, I have 5 RES turtles:
one-10 month old, two-6 month old and my 2 new baby RES turtles that I just bought home today.
I have dealt with swollen eyes before with my 10 month old RES. It had a mate who too had swollen eyes. I was able to cure both of them with the Zoo Med Repti Turtle Eye Drops, I dropped a couple of drops in their eyes for two weeks straight, and it by the time the two weeks were up their eyes were perfectly fine. (I also dropped the eyedrops to my two 6month RES to prevent swollen eyes and they never got them.) But by the time my RES turtle's eye cleared up, it was too late for one of them, it was totally depleted and died of-- I can only guess starvation- because he didnt eat a lick when he was temporarily blind. So I was only able to save 1.
Jump forward to now--that was about 3 months ago since they had swollen eyes. Now I have two new baby RES turtles that are infected. I dropped the eyedrops in their eyes a few minutes after they got into the water. I wanted to be safe than sorry but now they're swollen. Anyone ever encountered the same problems? It would really help.
PS, if any are wondering where I bought my new baby turtles, I buy all my turtles from chinatown in downtown LA. The conditions they leave them in are ghastly. Super tiny plastic "tanks" without even a full inch of water to for them to swim, so they basically have to sit around in tap water full of feces. I'm sure they throw them out after a month if they aren't sold. so every few months I try to save a couple. in a year, i hope to have a pond in my backyard so they have more room to grow and to keep adding on.
