First off i would like to say hi to everyone. I just found this website while searching for help for my res. I have had one for a long time, shell is about 8" long. I just resently got 2 more from a local petco. They both had some type of white cotton type of fugis on them that i have already taken care of. I would hate to say my knowledge is not what it should be about my res.

Heres the problem. Its a male, he shell is maybe a little less than 3" long. Not sure how old that makes him. But the top of his neck has been peeling. Kinda right about in the middle if he streches it out really far.Its a spot that goes across his neck maybe 1/4" long. I thought maybe there was a sharp edge on his shell that was irritating it, but all the edges by his neck were smooth. He has been like that sense i got him from the store. It has been a white spot like the top layer of skin was rubbed off. And just today the is a little bit deeper red spot. I really don't know what to do. I am have problems finding a vet in my area( springfield,MA) That knows anything about turtles. Thanks for any help. Sean.

Welcome. (I live about 30 minutes from you on I91. ) The turtle has had this since you got him? It sounds like, from what you wrote, something is irritating the area or possibly he was injured while at the store (crowded conditions?). Is the turtle overweight? If so, even thought there are no sharp edges to the shell, the excess flesh could still be rubbing.

Are they all in the tank together? (Ideally the new ones should have been quarantined before putting them with yours.)

What is your set-up like? (Tank size, lighting, filter, etc.?)

For herp vets, there's a link for locating one at the top of the Urgent Care Forum. Being in Springfield, you might want to contact Mass Turtle Rescue www.maturtlerescue.org Perhaps they could refer you a herp vet in your area. Let us know how your turtles are doing.

I just clicked on it, and the site came right up. (I always check after I've post a site.).

Clicked on the link I posted last Friday, and that one works fine, too. Perhaps the site was down for a time.

Nope on both of them I still get "there is no website configured at this address"... I wonder if it's because it's still in your cache that you're seeing it. Very odd.. maybe they only want people in Mass to visit their site ..

edit: The main site doesn't work but the secondary one with their policies does. very odd.

2nd edit: Ok, if I take out the www. and just use maturtlerescue.org it works. They must be redoing some things on the site or something..

I'm thinking it had something to do with the weather here. It's been really windy and rainy, and there are quite a few people in the Greater Hartford area without power. Springfield is really close to Hartford...
