I have had my RES for 4 years now. He has always ate good and in the past week he has not eaten anything but a bite or two thats all. There has been a change in his life though. I use to have another RES that I had for a little over 3 years and we had to let her go because she was trying to bite the male turtles head all the time, so we had to let her go. Could that be the case? Should I let my other turtle go that I have now as well? I dont want he to starve to death. He acts normal other than the eating thing...

How much do you normally feed him and how often? He looks as though he may have been getting too much food.

By 'let her go' do you mean gave her to someone else or literally let her go into the wild?

We gave her to a pet store that has other RES.
Also, we feed him the sticks and we feed him how much he can consume in 15 mins. i only give him about 10 sticks a day. he has aint any but like a stick a day here since we let the other turtle go. Could that be the reason?

Pellet sizes vary greatly so I'm not sure how much you're talking about. As an adult, he should only be getting about the size of his head and neck every other day, of mainly greens and some pellets.

Have you tried giving him different types of food? Have you ever given him live prey (minnows, worms, crickets, etc)?

I give him that much. Head/neck.
I gave him different food all the time. He loves green and the sticks and mealworms. And he lovesss green beans but in the past week he hasnnt really ate. I gave him a green bean today an he took one bite and was not interested and normally he eats it right up. Do you think because his buddy is gone he is sad?

It might take a little time to adjust, but he's fine alone. Beans should not be part of the diet, even if he enjoys them. Anything else about his tank change?

If by head/neck you mean that you give an amount that would fit into the head and neck, don't include the neck and just give what would fit into the head every other day (or half a head-size amount if you want to feed daily). But do concentrate on giving leafy greens and other plant matter. Mealworms aren't nutritious, have a very bad calcium/phosphorus ratio and are difficult to digest. If you give them, give them rarely.

Your RES looks a little bloated to me. Assuming he's healthy, a week isn't that long to go without food.

I doubt he's missing the other turtle per se. He's more likely to be aware, at least for a while, that something is absent from the tank.

The exact same thing happens to my turtles. The female always tries to bite the male's head and limbs however the male doesn't show much sign of retaliation or defense. My male RES also refuses to eat turtle food so I decided he wanted some variety in his diet. I then got him some meal worms which he happily ate =)

If your turtle's behavior improves tell me what you did because I need to do more than just feed him meal-worms.
