Hi. I have recently acquired a red eared slider turtle. He appears to be healthy in all respects apart from his shell which is kind of peeling at the edges of the some of the "tiles". sorry I don't know all correct terms yet! I live in Dubai so he lives outdoor at the moment (about 31 degrees C) during the day. He is active, eats well, enjoys a wander round the garden in the evening. I also have a question on food - he won't eat any vegetables but likes canned fish, dried shrimps and any meat scraps like sausages, ham etc. Is this ok or should I try to make sure he eats some greens? Have only seen lots of conflicting advice around this. Thank you for any advice. Alex

No, its not ok, the food that is. They need Greens, look in the food and nutrition section for what to feed and everything.

The "Tiles" (use scutes) shed like that, you have nothing to worry about.

You may wish to read the post in the forum about what to feed or not feed your RES. too much protein is not healthy for your turtle. I can cause many different physical problems that can shorten it's life.

If he's outdoors in really warm weather, make sure he has a place to go to for shade if he gets too warm.
