screaming?

Im new to owning a RES and its screaming!

still very active, but not eating alot...

I have no idea what to do, and the screaming just stared a couple days ago...


I could really use the advice!

How big is your turtle? about 5 inches long
How long have you had it? 3 weeks

What is the water temperature? 76
Did you use a thermometer? yes
Are you using a water heater? yes
How much water is in there? about 6 inches
Are you using a water conditioner? no
Are you using any filtration? no

What is the basking temperature? around 85
Is there a basking light? yes
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? yes
What kind is it or what is it made out of? rock-- sandstone
Is there a UVB light? no

What have you been trying to feed it? pellets and red minnow live fish
When was the last time your turtle ate? about 4 days ago

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 20 gallons
Is the tank near a window? yes
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? no

Have you read the Basic Care section? yes
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? yes

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? no.

It may actually be wheezing, or taking a deep breath. I've noticed that when mine are swimming around a lot, chasing fish and come up for a breath, it makes a squealing sort of sound sometimes.

Mine do that too. It seems like they're trying to catch their breath and take big gulps of air.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but how come you don't have a filter? How do you manage to keep the water clean?

I just change it about every 5 days.
Im just a freshman in college, so im saving up all the money for the filter, that ill be getting soon

thanks for the input!

I was worried when I saw other postings on here about turtles screaming when they're about to lay eggs...


but she usually does the noise when shes just sitting there, even though she does swim around alot

Also, Is bubbling from the nose normal? Its not happening alot but I just dont want to have anything wrong with her since ive only had her for about 3 weeks.

Air bubbles under water, yes. Bubbles of snot while basking, no.

the squealing noises thats shes making are happening while shes basking and swimming
