Urgent Care :: What's this on its neck (WITH FINAL UPDATE)

Hi all,

Recently I just realise that one of my pet turtle developed something strange on its right neck on the 'red ear' part...it looks like a tiny water balloon or some kind of a residue, I cant be sure cause it's very small. I touched it with my hand but my turtle doesn't seems to feel pain or anything and the thing wont come of either. Here a few pictures of it....






Has anyone experience something like this before? Could it be fungus or infection?

This turtle is about 1.5 inch in size (shell) and doesn't seems to have any unusual behaviour.

Im no expert but it could possibly starting to shed in that area. My turtles just got done shedding around their necks and now they are shedding their shells. My turts are aboout the same size as yours so Im thinking its just a sign a shedding. Was he completely dry in that pic?

But just in case keep a close eye on it. Remember, Im not an expert but Im sure somebody can tell you for sure what it is.

No... but as far as I can remember when he's dry the thing is brown or light brown in colour... You have any pictures of your turtle shedding?

A little update: I noticed he's also breathing a lot heavier than usual and often sticking his neck out longer than before. Last night he even sleeps by standing upright with the back limbs (lean against the tank of course).

UPDATE:

Yesterday night I checked my turtle again and found out that the 'thing' had turned into rectangular shaped, and looks like a tear-able sticker. When I try my hand on it, some of the skin on his neck will follow the unknown 'thing'.. Anyone have any idea what it is? I'm a new owner so I don't have any experience on this.

Could also be a cyst or a scab. You should keep this turtle separate if you have others and make sure the water is as clean as possible. You might want to swab the area gently with diluted betadine or chlorhexidine.

Hi steve,thanks for your reply. I'd separated it from the other since it's not being really active and eating as well. (All of a sudden I was thinking of using mouthwash to rub it, ) Any chance of it can be cured by itself?

As you can see in the images,it had turned into a white stuff and can't be remove or peel like my last update. Kinda think of it, it does looks like a cysts.

Sorry, still have no idea what it is. I'd still swab it with diluted betadine or chlorhexidine and apply an antibiotic afterwards.

Looks sort of like a cyst. Have you tried taking it to a vet?

UPDATE:

The same day I found out the thing turned to white colour, it fall off （i think) Kaya's neck at night. i checked him and found nothing left on his neck except for some scars(?).

I still have no idea what it was but I have some pictures below. It flows inside the water so I have to use the net to get it.

My turtle is still acting funny though, won't eat and trying to crawl out of the tank all the time. I separated him again into another small bucket and he return calm...Any reason for him to act like this? (Again, I'm not sure what my turtle's gender but I refer them as 'he')

Is he getting bullied by the other turtles in the tank? Maybe they're stressing him out and that's why he won't eat. And maybe the neck thing came from one of them taking a small nip at him. You know, like when you get a blister from pinching your finger?

I put a bit of Neosporin on those "scars."

I am sure that it's not cause of the other turtle I have that stressing him 'cause they didn't really bother each other much.

UPDATE:

He's still not eating and very very inactive. The last couple of days he been sitting on the basking area the whole day without even moving, sometimes only with his head out of the shell and didn't go/like to swim at all.

I also noticed his eyes....are extremely bigger when compared to my another turtle. It seems to me that they are growing.. I'm worried since it's one of the symptoms of sick turtle.

One more thing, both of my turtles lost one of their nail/claw on the right front limb,the nails/claws was still there when I first got them. Is it typical or I should kept an eye on them?
