I left town for a couple of days and came back to my filter making a weird mechanic sound. It turns out my RES knocked the in tube of the filter off so it was running dry. I try fallowing the directions on the filter to restart the filter but it wont work for some reason.

It wont even fill back up with water before turning the filter on.

Any suggestions on how to fix this??

It won't fill with water when you lift the lever? Try priming the filter yourself (filling the canister with water) before turning it on. Make sure all air is out of the tubing.

Do you have extra cash lying around? What size tank do you have? How much water is actually in there?

If your turtle can break it, then perhaps it's the wrong filter for you. The one I use for my 55 gallon (the tank is only half full) is the Cascade 404. It keeps the water itself very, very clean, especially since my turtles share the tank. It doesn't have anything a turtle can pull off or damage. You can use it to make a waterfall effect to. The whole thing cost me about 60 dollars, give or take. Filters about 152 gallons per hour.

Air pump filters give people a lot of trouble.

Every time I've had an issue with my Rena XP3, I have reprimed it and let it run again. Sometimes it requires several reprimings and powering on and off to get the bubble out and everything working well again.

If that does not work, I would try contacting the manufacturer for further suggestions.
