Hi,

I recently rescued this poor little guy from a pet shop (he's pig nose turtle) - he was sitting in a tiny box barely big enough for him to turn around in, in about 1cm of dirty flurocetant green water. I saw him there two weeks ago and almost bought him, but I didn't want to encorage the pet shop to buy and treat more turtles like this. HOWEVER I recently returned and he was still there alive!

I brought him home, placed him in fresh water and he is now swimming around and eating happily but I want to treat what I believe is a serve fungal infection in TWO places. It apparently kills pig nose turtles very rapdily. I have some special iodine solution for turtles but unsure of the best course of action for the turtle (i.e. do I dry dock/ soak in iodine, swab area etc etc).

I also have some F10 disinfectant that I know has been used successfully by herp vets to treat turtles in the past. Unsure of dulition quantities though.

Please help!

Appologies if anyone takes offence that he's not a RES :)

Thanks in advance!

man that looks pretty bad...you did a good thing taking the guy in :) ...The best thing to do would be to take him to a vet who specializes in reptiles.... If thats not possible im GUESSING he can recover on his own since hes eating.... good luck!!!

Thanks :)

Sadly I live in a country with no herp vets..there are dog and cat vets and thats about it!

Anyone have any advice on whether I should dry dock etc?

I feel bad for the pig-nosed turtle. So, I searched online a little and found these:
http://www.flyriverturtle.com/turtle-maintenance.html
http://www.carettochelys.com/carettochelys/water.htm

You might want to try the method written there if you haven't. I don't think
dry-docking this type of turtle is the cure.

What country are you in? Are there any zoos, aquariums, etc. in it? If so, I'd contact one of them, see if anyone knows about this species of turtle and what the best course of action is for that fungus.

You could also contact someone who has used the medication you referred to (you said you knew turtles have been successfully treated with it in the past) and see if they can help...
