Yesterday I was watching my turtle bask and noticed that his shell was looking kinda white and weird. I was thinking maybe it could be shell rot. Because he can't possibly be shedding, can he?

I honestly can't remember, but I think I've had him since August, maybe June. And he's still small enough to fit into a 3 year old's hand. After that whole other shell mishap where it started curving, I fixed everything that was wrong with his tank/set-up and thought he'd be fine. Then I noticed this.

I tried to take as many dry pictures as I could:

That is probably his first shed. You just have to make sure he has a place to completely dry off and get some UVB/UVA light. What you shouldn't do is pull on the scutes; they will come off on their own.

Thanks :) One of the scutes looks like it's ready to go and I know not to pull them off, just to let it happen on it's own. When they do fall off, will I be able to see them, like, floating in the water or what?

Although scutes are rather transparent, you should be able to see them. They will
sink to the bottom and probably get stuck on the filter input.

Oh, goody :) I had no idea turtles could start to shed at such a small size. That's why I freaked out. Haha.

misterturtle, your RES doesn't look that small to me. How big is he (shell length without the curve)?
