My turtle had a piece of thread stuch in his butt. (I think this is from fake plants that were in his tank months ago). This morning he was makind a lot of noise, he had his front right arm and back right leg in and he was turning in circles, while his left arm and leg were paddling. He kind of looke like a dog when it chases its tail. Then thats when I noticed the thread coming out his butt/tail. He was kicking it and kept turning, he moved so much it looked like if he was doing cartwheels in the water. I tried to pick him up and help but he was swiming away to quick. Finally my mom picked him up and got all the thread out (she had to do it twice).

Now he is still swiming the same way, but much slower and less frequently, he also swims normally, especially when he sees me come into the room. I also tested it, by shaking his can of food in the air to make a noise ( he likes that), and he swam normally from one end of the tank to the other. Sometimes I sneak in the room and look, and hes doing the circular motion really slowly, and looking down at his reflection in the water and trying to bite it.

I read this in the website ( look below) It it made me worry.
Circular, Erratic or Lopsided Swimming / Irregular Walking

Irregular swimming is often a serious sign of respiratory infection. Fluid build-up in the lungs impairs normal swimming ability. Irregular walking may occur due to the same reasons. Check for other symptoms, take basic measures and prepare for veterinary consultation. Make sure the water temperatures are correct and that your turtle is not exposed to cold drafts.

These types of irregularities may also be due to a neurological condition or an ear abscess. This is a serious symptom that needs immediate attention. It can easily lead to drowning and other injuries.

Has this happened to anyone? I mean he is swimming normally, just once in a while looks down and swims in a circle.

what shoud I do? (Sorry the post is so long)

I think your best bet would be have have him checked out by a vet. And not at alarm you, but your mom really shouldn't have pulled the thread out. It could have been entwined in his organs and she could have done more damage by pulling it out. I would take him to a vet and tell the vet about the thread and the funny swimming.

Hmmm....are you sure it was a thread? Was it white? A tape worm looks a lot like a thread.

I agree with SpotsMama. It could be a worm, some worms do look ALOT like thread. As for the lopsided swimming, that's a symptom of a respiratory infection. You should definately take him to the vet if symptons like, swollen eyes and of them being lethargic. If you notice these symptoms take him to the vet right away!

Was it segmented? If it's recurring, it definitely could be a parasite. If you see it again, take it (the "thread") with your turtle to a vet to have it analyzed.
