That's all most people use anyways, a regular household bulb. It's much cheaper than buying a special basking bulb and works just the same as one. Just play around with the wattage for the size tank you have until you get the appropriate basking temp, around 90 degrees. :)

I had that problem with the TRex Active UV Heat bulb (combo uva/uvb). If that's what you're using, give it 10 min to cool down and plug it back in. Mine goes out every once in a while too. Even if it's burned out, your turt will be fine with a regular bulb for a few days.

Take it back to where you bought it - they might replace it for you. A place like drsfostersmith.com will replace it within 2 months (maybe 3 - dont remember) for electrical devices. They replaced a ceramic bulb for me once... they have great custserv

If they don't you can try to contact the manufacturer, they may replace the defective bulb, which if it is like most fluorescent bulbs, it is probably guaranteed for 2 to 5 years of service. :D

What brand of bulb is it? Zoo-Med is supposedly going to replace one for me that failed after almost 7 months...I'd contact the place where you bought it first (many don't guarantee bulbs, though), and then the mfgr.
