I'm watching my YBS basking and his legs are stretched out which I've been told is a healthy sign but I have noticed what looks like a hick-up but no noise. He swims fine and eats fine but every now and then it looks like a hick-up or even better it looks like he has a cold shiver like a head jerk

It looks like when a child nods off and as the kids head falls forward he jerks awake.

All the turtles "twitch" from time to time when they are basking. It may be that they are starting to get hot from the heat lamp, or they have some dead skin that's itching. I've noticed that usually when Spot twitches he winds up sliding off his platform into the water in a few minutes, or sometimes he pulls his head and legs into his shell.

they did slide in quickly and one did have his legs in his shell. I guess I should raise my heat. It's reading 96 and 98 across the area

Ratheer than raise the heat, I'd lower it several degrees to around 90 or 92. That's probably what you meant to say. :D

On a related note, sometimes my turtle will sit on the edge of her atba, basking, with her head dunked in the water. She takes it out periodically then sticks it back in.
