Today was the day to check on Neptune and his tank and I found some things that I did not find on him last weekend.

He ate a red pepper two days ago.




also I saw this and it was a little weak and bubblely

The first picture really looks like an injury. You will have to treat it with medication before it grows into a shell rot. The vet should be able to give you the right treatments
The redness looks a little bit like Specticema, but I'm probably wrong. I only get Specticema from the red tint. The red tint can also mean there's a lack of vita a (which I am more confident about) Check with your vet about this also
The last pic mean there's some dietary problems. It could well be a fungal infection. Make sure he eats enough calcium and basks enough with UVB that produces UVB waves. It could heal without a vet's visit, but if it doesn't, check with your vet

The first two spots look like injuries to me. But they can develop into shell rot, quite easily. I would treat with a Betadine or Nolvasan scrub and dry docking for a couple of hours then an antibiotic oinment and a couple more hours of dry docking to let the medicine absorb thru the shell.

The third bubble is more ominous.. I would say shell rot. Again scrub with Betadine and antibiotic ointment--Same treatment as above. I would not go for trying to remove the spot at this point.

and you will see a plastron that has both shell rot, and some bleeding from that shell rot.

You fed it a red pepper? Why?

I'm assuming she fed it a red bell pepper. And they're good for them.

He didn't have them the day I feed him the pepper, this stuff just seemed to show up out of no where that or I am blind.

The bubble spot I was pretty sure he wasn't getting dry enough on the bottom side. I got a better dock just the other day. I just wanted to double check with you guys though.

I was wondering and I apologize if this sounds stupid, but I was wondering if the red spots in the front might be from the pepper.

But the one really red spot by his front arm looks like blood . . . BUT I had never seen it before so I was hoping (even though it is sad) that an expert would know until I can get him to the vet.

About three weeks ago he escaped about three feet high distance, but I hadn't noticed any thing until now . . .

I feel so awful . . .


PS Sirens no he doesn't bask enough, but I just got him a new dock that should be much better.

I was checking up on him. The one dark red spot seems to be going down, but the rest of his belly is turning pink, I am scared he is dying . . . . I am going to call the vet tomorrow, but I don't know when I will have time to go. *sigh*

If your turtle is behaving normally and eating and swimming, I wouldn't worry about him dying--just try to get him checked out ASAP so he can get better.

he never swam around. Eating yes.

The pinkish due on the plastron usually means lack of vitamin a. Be sure to offer him lots of veggies.

I've always red that eating food like shrimp or other red/pink colored food can give a pink tinge to the plastron. It can also be a sign of growth, although in this case, where there is some question about injury and shell rot, it really would be good to have the turtle checked out. Eating foods high in beta carotene (which is used to make Vit A) can add a more orangy/brighter yellow color to the shell.

yeah, I was going to take him today, but I had to go to the doctor today; so I am going to try to get him in tomorrow. I was coughing up blood. He seems to be digesting fine.

so would carrots be better for him then?

Yes, like marisa said, carrots have carotene that brightens up the hues

yeah I think so, but I will find out when i get my tests results.

well i will switch from red peppers to carrots and talk to the vet!
