Urgent Care :: my baby turtle wont move his front legs...

Hello, I recently got a baby turtle about a week ago. He had been acting fine until this morning when I woke up. He isn't moving his front legs now, and is trying to propel himself forward with only his back legs. He won't move his front legs in the water or even out of the water. Does anyone know what this may be from???

That doesn't sound good at all. Is there any swelling or signs of injury?

There isn't any signs at all. He just wont swim with them or even walk on them.

His front legs are pretty much under him not pulled in shell, its like he doesn't have control over them and his back legs are more behind him now. Someone said it may be because he is growing...is this true?

No, that's not true. When you touch his front legs is there any reaction? If he can move them at all he would definitely do so in a reflex movement.

Are there any other turtles in the tank? Has he been handled excessively or could he have fallen and injured himself?

He can move them when i touch them, he will push against my finger. It is like he cant pull them forward to pull himself up.

There is another baby in the tank as well that he came with they don't give eachother much attention though.

The only opportunity for him to have injured himself is from the small log in their tank but it is over water. He was spending much of his time on the log recently too.

I'd give him a day or two to see if he will snap out of it or improve. It may be neurological though...... if he does not improve in a couple of days, take him to a herp vet.

Okay im starting to think its nuerological too though. There is no way that he could of gotten hurt in his tank.

Well at 11:00 p.m. tonight he is no longer with us.
:[ we are taking him back tomorrow to hopefully find out what happened to him.

There's a chance he had some contageous disease. To help keep your other turtle from getting sick, you should clean out the tank thoroughly - drain all the water, clean everything with a mild solution of vinegar and water, then rinse thoroughly before putting your turtle back in. Watch your other turtle closely and if he starts acting ill (lethargic, poor appetite, swollen eyes, etc), raise the water temp a few degrees (from 78 to 82), avoid stressing him and get him to a vet.
