Hello all,
I think my baby turtle is sick. I recently took him from a family that was not treating him well. He was in a 1g tank with barely any water and the water was never changed. He was also malnutritioned. Since I took him I was able to get him into a 10g tank until my 55g is ready (reference: http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18458). Since I got him into this tank he has been shedding. I don't know what to consider excessive shedding or not. Look at the pictures in the lonk above for reference. The shedding has been a little worse but not much. The temp in the tank ranges from 75-80.6. It drops to 75 degrees at night and gets up to 80.6 during the day. The tank is so small that the heat lamp heats the water up to a little above 80. I try and put some cold water in there to drop it during the day which helps a little. Most of the time it lingers around 79. I am try to hurry as best as possible to to get him into the larger tank. Please look at the pics and let me know if there is reason to be alarmed. Can I use a toothbrush and lightly brush off the dead skin? What can I do to help him? As far as his activity he bask normally, swims normally but sometimes acts very strange. Please HELP!!!!
