Urgent Care :: Patch on Hatchling's Neck

Hello everyone,
I am the owner of a 3 year old red eared slider I raised from a hatchling. He has always been healthy and never had any problems. I recently ordered a slider hatchling for my dad and it has a brown patch on one side of his neck. It is only on one side, doesn't seem to bother him, and it is not oozy or flaky. He is otherwise healthy and active. I did some research and thought it might be fungus, so I got a reptile dip at the local pet store that is supposed to cure turtle fungus. Then I read where this could be unhealthy... what do I do??? Can it be fungus on the skin and not the shell??

Is there any way possible for you to post a picture so those in the know can evaluate it?

Fungus can appear on the skin, BUT before you start treating your turtle for fungus, post a picture of the affected area. No one knows what the problem could possibly be from your description.

Is the area raised at all? Does it look like it could be a scab? Is this the only place that has a brown patch (check the legs and tail as well). A pic, please...

I'm sorry, I can't seem to figure out why the pic won't display.

It is the only place I've found on him, and it is only on one side of his neck. It doesn't look like a scab, it just looks like a little layer of growth. I can't touch it because he pulls too far into his shell when I try.

It may also be a burn from a heater but that does not happen often as an infection. Since he's small, I would take him to a vet to get him checked out. You want to make sure the little guy gets off to a good start.
