Urgent Care :: Turtle left in sun

I feel terrible right now, but i left my turtle outside in tupperware and not a place to get some shade. I only wanted him to be out there for about 15 minutes but my friends came over and I totally forgot about him. He was out there about an hour.

I went outside and he wasnt moving, but his eyes were open and all. So i took him to his tank and dipped him in the water a few times.. Then i put him on the basking platform and he scurried off, but he is very stiff. His front legs do not have a great deal of motion to them, but he does move them.

What is going to happen to him? Its a inch an a half YBS. Is he going to be okay, and what can I do to help him?

Its been about 15 minutes and he is doing a lot better now. Swimming a little bit but still stiff.

Will this have long term effects on him?

I think he will be fine, especially if he is making progress since you brought him back inside. Just keep an eye on him for the next few days. If he is eating normally and he looks ok, he should be just fine. Good thing it was only an hour and not a whole day!

He probably just needed a good soak after the heat. I don't think there will be any long-term damage, but definitely keep an eye on him and keep us posted.

And in the future, set a timer to remind yourself. The next time you may have a baked-dry turtle ...

It sounds like his stiffness is from having his skin burned. If he's improving, that's a good sign.
