Hi There

I have a 5-6inc RES who makes these weird sounds which sound sort of
like a duck but he does not do it all the time.

I've checked his nostral's to insure they were clear.

Any clues as to what it could be?.

Regards, Jagz

I'll try my best to get some sound clips of when he makes the sounds.
and then i'll post them on here for you lot butcher.

Cheers

Since you posted under Urgent Care, could you answer the questions located here:

Does he make the sounds out of the water, in the water, or both? He may have an obstruction in his nose or mouth and you are unable to see it, they have awfully small nostrils after all. Is it more of a hissing sound? They make a sort of disturbing hissing sound when they are being held out of the water from pulling their head/neck in and out.

Hi There

He only makes the sound when his out of the water but its not like
all the time he makes the sound.

Its like once or twice every 2 or 3 weeks.

Its not a hissing sound and thats for sure but more of a duck, quak'in
type if you know what i mean.

As regards to the thread i don't have any issues there.

Regards, Jagz

That's strange, I don't think I've heard anyone describe that kind of sound before.

When my turtle was making that sound last year, it turned out he was very sick (with a respiratory infection), and I wasn't keeping his water warm enough. There was mucous and even a little blood in the water until he got better.

Thankfully I found this site and was able to start giving him the care he needed. (I had 'rescued' him from a neglectful relative, and I did not understand his temperature and dietary requirements adequately at the time...)

So, I think of this sound as a "distress" call. Could he be suffering in some way?
