HI, my 3 and a half inch RES has recently started swimming agasint the tank really really fast, to the point where the water splashes. Does anyone know what might be causing this because it seems really stressful for the turtle, to swim so fast against a glass wall.
Also, i know there will be some questions so: my tank is a 40 gallon, but the water is filled up not fully, so at around 30 gallons. I use a solution to get rid of chlorine but no other solutions like water conditioners because i dont kow what theyre for. So i guess the question is why is my turtle acting like this?

hes excited to see his source of food. you haha.
remember that RES beg to the max. dont give in, make sure you stick to their diet. too much food leads to problems.

Wait a minute! You said "She", correct? How big is she. She might be wanting to get out and lay eggs.

I just noticed you said she was 3 and 1/2 inches. It is a possibility. Read this section:

I've never heard of a RES gravid at that size. Most likely it is begging as it's been noted.

Mikey used to do that ALL the time, then someone suggested I put a background around the back three walls of the tank. I did and he hasn't done it since. Now he only does it when he knows I'm going to feed him (and that's only towards me).

Agreed with Steve. A turtle that is 3.5 inches long is not big enough to lay eggs yet. Their shell needs to be at least 5 inches long to be able to have enough room inside the shell cavity to carry eggs.
