Another abcess! I'm not doubting my filter w/UV sterilizer purchase anymore!

Anyway, follow the advice in those topics, asap!

i agree find a GOOD and RELIABLE vet. the sooner its taking care of the better. umm i do have a question though. what causes these infections??

sorry to impose on this topic but i just had to ask.

I've heard that dirty water can cause them, i'm sure it makes it more likely anyway.

Inadequate husbandry can result in an abcess, but not always.

Turtlelover66, your turtle needs to see a herp vet to have the abcess lanced and drained. There isn't an over-the-counter product that will cure it...

TL 66 -- No! don't pop it. The infection will probably get worse. That would expose an open wound to tank water. There are bacteria that would do more harm than good. If you can't afford to take care of your turtle he will probably last longer like he is. There are rescue places that will take him. His life is in your hands.

Have you tried calling around to herp vets to see their prices? Some will even let you pay in an installment plan.

Fine ill bring it 2 a vet but will they put him asleep?? he hasnt ate in 1 1/2 months!

I don't see why they would put your turtle down unless it was hopelessly ill. Honestly, if your turtle hasn't eaten in that long i think you may have waited too long to begin worrying about it. Get him to a herp vet ASAP, do what you need to do to get him well.

You can try to ask an experienced vet about payment options or explain your situation. You could also ask experienced herp keepers in your area... or you can give your turtle away to an owner to can afford to take care of it.
