While you're looking for a vet, keep him warm (set his water heater to 80-82F and have the basking area temp around 90F). Make sure he doesn't get exposed to drafts or breezes. Is he eating? If so, that's good. If not, try to get him to eat with some smelly foods (tuna or sardines packed in water).

Good luck.

When does he open is mouth, out of the water or in the water? What do his eyes look like---are they swollen or closed at all?

Time for a visit to the vet. The sooner the better. The turtles that get aggressive treatment early on are the ones that do best. Good luck.
